HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – This week, the Kitchen Cops discovered some concerning finds throughout north Alabama.
Colbert County
The South Montgomery Avenue location of Sergio Mexican Restaurant in Sheffield got an 84. We’re waiting for further information from the Health Department.
DeKalb County
This week, we welcome DeKalb County to the Kitchen Cops series. We appreciate the information provided by the DeKalb County Health Department.
In its most recent inspection, the Traveler’s Inn on Highway 68 in Collinsville received a 66. In one of the rooms, there was no hot water under pressure, flies and gnats were present, and poisonous chemicals were inappropriately stored near food, clean linens, and other goods.
A broken dispenser in the men’s restroom at the Zaxby’s on Glenn Boulevard in Fort Payne. Mold was also found in the ice machine, and dangerous chemicals were stored near the bread and over the food preparation area. It receives a 77.
The Jack’s, also on Glenn Boulevard, receives an 82 due to mold in an ice cream scoop holder and a lack of paper towels at several sinks.
The Panther Cafe in Collinsville received an 83 because of concerns with food temperatures in a fridge and uncooked eggs providing a cross-contamination risk to neighbouring meals.
Franklin County
Captain D’s on Highway 43 in Russellville received an 84. More information is awaited from the Health Department.
Lauderdale County
Los 2 Hermanos Market receives an 85 for unlabeled chemicals, staff lacking sufficient food safety training, and a lack of hot water at a sink.
Limestone County
Limestone County has no major challenges.
Madison County
Inspectors discovered various goods at the incorrect temperature, missing employee food safety paperwork, and missing chemical test kits at the Scott Bobo mini-mart on Scott Road and Bobo Section, tying it for the lowest score in Madison County. Moldy chicken wings, bad ham, and rotten tomatoes and lettuce were also featured. Those objects were all discarded. It received a final score of 74.
This week, the Microtel Inn on Shields Road received a 74 as well. Inspectors claim they were unable to view pool safety logs going back three years. In the laundry area and on housekeeping carts, there were also chemicals in unmarked spray bottles. Chemicals were also placed alongside clean sheets and towels.
Harvest’s Turkey’s Barbecue receives a score of 77. There was some disagreement about when some of the food in the cooler was prepared. On August 17th, the inspection was completed. Potato salad and coleslaw labels indicated that they were made on August 3rd. A manager disputed this, claiming that they were manufactured on the 14th and that the label was inaccurate. Inspectors also discovered rodent feces in the storage area and employees using the ice maker as a personal cooler.
The Madison Square Chevron on University Drive was cited for having chemicals kept on an ice machine, having a dirty ice machine, and having no paper towels. It receives an 82.
The Slurrp Smoothies food truck receives an 82 as well due to a lack of soap at the sink, flies inside, and a broken sink.
