Alabama officials say a man was murdered when his boat collided with a bridge column and threw him into a lake

A man was murdered early Saturday when his boat collided with a bridge support column, hurling him into the sea, according to Alabama law enforcement officials.

The marine-related tragedy occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday and claimed the life of a man from Luka, Mississippi.

Ricky D. Rodgers, 63, was killed when the aluminum fishing boat he was operating collided with a support column on the Second Creek Bridge.

Rodgers, who was not wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) at the time of the incident, was ejected and died at the site.

The accident happened on Pickwick Lake when it entered Second Creek near Waterloo in Lauderdale County.
