14-year-old Alabama girl nominated for life-changing baking award in nationwide competition

McKenzie Clarke’s journey to success began with humble beginnings. Now, her passion has blossomed into a thriving full-time business. Montgomery, Alabama’s WSFA reports on her inspiring story.

Clarke revealed that her passion for baking started when she decided to bake a birthday cake instead of the usual sugar cookies they deliver to the fire and police department every year. “I fell in love with baking,” she shared.

While maintaining her spot on the honor roll at Lowndes Academy, she has also fulfilled multiple orders for wedding cakes and is currently juggling dozens of cookie orders.

Clarke expressed that creating art is a calming activity for him. He believes that the key to enjoying the process is to have fun with it and embrace the freedom to express oneself in any way possible.

Clarke, who was born with hemophilia, a genetic disorder that affects blood clotting, attributes her success to Magic Moments. The organization granted her a wish and she chose to use the funds to purchase baking supplies.

The Carla Hall Favorite Chef Award is the next big challenge that awaits her, and winning it would be a life-changing experience, according to her.

Clarke explained that the prize was a whopping $25,000 and a chance to feature on the cover of a magazine with a trip to New York.

As of now, Clarke is leading the competition, but the final verdict won’t be out until July. In case you wish to show your support and cast your vote for her, please click on this link. Moreover, you can also purchase some of her delicious baked goods by clicking here.
