Tragedy struck in New York City as a man lost his life after becoming stuck in a cement mixer truck.
According to reports from The New York Daily News, Norwood News, and NBC affiliate WNBC-TV, the tragic incident occurred on Monday at 1140 Grinnell Place in the Bronx’s Hunts Point neighborhood.

According to the family of the victim, Francisco Lumbreras, as reported by the New York Daily News, he was pronounced dead at the scene by officials from the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), as reported by WNBC-TV.

According to officials from the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB), “there were no ongoing construction operations at the site and it was not considered a construction site during the time of the accident.”
According to Norwood News, officials from the DOB have reported that the fatal accident occurred as Lumbreras was cleaning a concrete truck. According to the outlet, a representative from the New York Police Department also verified that Lumbreras was preparing the cement truck when the tragic incident occurred. However, the spokesperson did not disclose if anyone was present with him during the accident.
According to the Norwood News, the case has been referred to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for follow-up.According to Lumbreras’ son, Frank, the incident was a “freak accident” and his father was known as the hardest-working person in the Bronx. As reported by the NY Daily News, Frank provided this insight into the situation.
According to the family member, Francisco was the central figure in their family, and his loss has left them at a loss for what to do next. “We don’t know what to do now,” the family member stated.
