Brooklyn Gang Member Sentenced to Prison for Murder Committed in 2020

Malik Bacchus, a 22-year-old resident of Crown Heights, has been convicted of the murder of 18-year-old Shamel Boomer and sentenced to 23 years to life in prison.

According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, the occurrence that took place on July 10, 2020, was an instance of gang violence prevalent in the locality.

Bacchus, who was linked with the Bergen Fam gang, was found guilty of several charges which included second-degree murder. This happened after he shot Boomer, who was a member of the WOOO gang, in a hotel lobby.

There was a notable escalation of retaliation and gang violence in the aftermath of the murder. Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun and the DA’s office aim to establish accountability through this sentence.
