Police officers in Anaheim fatally shoot a woman who was carrying a pellet gun

Authorities are currently investigating an incident where Anaheim police officers fatally shot a woman who was reportedly carrying a weapon.

Around 9 a.m. on Sunday, a call was made to the Anaheim Police Department reporting a person armed with a firearm on the 1200 block of South Anaheim Boulevard. The officers immediately responded to the call of an alleged shooting.

According to officials, officers engaged in a confrontation with a young woman, later identified as 20-year-old Abigail Lopez, resulting in the use of firearms. Lopez sustained at least one gunshot wound from the police.

Sadly, Lopez passed away from her injuries after being taken to a nearby hospital.

According to the Anaheim police, they discovered a pellet gun at the scene that had a striking resemblance to a real short-barrel assault weapon. However, the identities of the officers who were engaged in the encounter were not revealed by the department.

Anaheim Police Department’s homicide detectives, internal affairs unit, review board, and major incident review team are currently investigating the case. The Office of Independent Review and county district attorney’s office have also joined the investigation.
