Homecoming Queen of Missouri is a transgender girl, and the right loses it

The internet has been buzzing with discussion about the recent crowning of Tristan Young, a teenager from Missouri, as the homecoming queen of Oak Park High School in Kansas City.

According to various reports, Young, a transgender student, has been elected as the homecoming queen at her school, triumphing over four other cisgender competitors. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that a transgender student has been elected as the homecoming queen at this school. The first time was back in 2015.

The Libs of TikTok account on X, formerly known as Twitter, run by Chaya Raichik, has been repeatedly targeting transgender individuals. With a massive audience of over 2.5 million followers, Raichik used the platform to vehemently criticize Young’s victory, resorting to transphobic and scornful language.

A recent article on the Libs of TikTok substack site expressed disappointment towards Young’s win, using offensive language and misgendering them. The article suggested that Young’s victory sends a message that boys are inherently better than girls, even at being a girl. Despite being a male student who identifies as female, Young was crowned homecoming queen, defeating four other female candidates. The article went on to say that identifying as one’s true gender is outdated and unimportant.

In an effort to strengthen her argument, Raichik cited comments from unnamed parents who vehemently opposed the school’s decision. One parent expressed their disapproval by stating, “I am absolutely horrified by NKC Schools’ ongoing promotion of the LGBT agenda… It is a disgrace to the entire NKC Schools community to have two male students crowned as homecoming “queens”.” Another parent was quoted saying, “As a woman, it deeply saddens me to see these deserving female students being overlooked in favor of a male student who is taking something that rightfully belongs to them.”

When sharing the article on Twitter, Raichik made a strong statement, pointing out that a male student had won the title of homecoming queen in a Missouri school, beating out all the female contestants. She also mentioned that she spoke with two parents who were appalled by the school district’s decision to validate the confusion and delusions of young students.

The claims made have caused a lot of skepticism since Raichik, who is 28 years old, portrays herself as a guardian of children but is targeting a teenager.

According to experts in extremism and security, Raichik has been accused of utilizing stochastic terrorism tactics through her inflammatory language, which could potentially incite individuals to commit violent acts. It has been noted that in the past, extremists have targeted the institutions and individuals that Raichik has prominently featured on her platform, Libs of TikTok.

Amidst the online controversy, there has been an outpouring of support for Young as well. Justice Horn, the Chair of the LGBTQ Commission of Kansas City, congratulated Young on their achievement and wrote, “I want to take a moment to congratulate Tristan on their well-deserved title of Oak Park High School’s Homecoming Queen! It is heartening to see the next generation in Kansas City being so accepting and kind, despite the transphobic comments made against them. Kudos to the peers who voted for Tristan.”

Someone came forward in defense of Young and shared their personal experience with her during their school years, strongly refuting the notion that any narrative influenced Young’s identity. This individual emphasized that they were friends with Young and attended Oak Park High School together. They spoke highly of Young’s character, describing her as the kindest person they had ever worked with. They vehemently dismissed a bigoted comment about Young’s transgender identity, stating that the commenter had no idea what they were talking about.
