In relation to the weekend shooting on Second Street that resulted in the death of an off-duty Long Beach city employee, a San Pedro man has been charged with murder.
The 24-year-old Christopher Rene Salguero was supposed to appear in court on Wednesday to answer to a single murder charge. Salguero’s conduct allegedly involved “great violence, great bodily harm, threat of great bodily harm, and other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness, and callousness,” according to a complaint the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed in court.
According to court documents, he is still behind bars after a judge lowered his bail during his appearance on Wednesday from $3.025 million to $2 million. He hasn’t made a plea yet.
According to the police, Salguero shot 32-year-old Johnny Santos on the morning of February 18 after a brawl on Second Street in the well-known entertainment area of Belmont Shore. According to authorities, Santos was taken to a nearby hospital where he later passed away from his wounds.
The next day, police in San Pedro said that Salguero was taken into custody at his house on suspicion of murder.Authorities are still unsure of what started the altercation.
