Four migrants involved in a violent fight with police near Times Square may have escaped to California on a bus

Mocobizscene-Four migrants who were released without bail after allegedly attacking two NYPD officers near Times Square are reportedly on the run, according to sources.

Law enforcement sources have revealed that the group of individuals, suspected to be involved in criminal activities, may have boarded a bus headed to California on Wednesday. To avoid detection, they reportedly provided false identities to a nonprofit organization affiliated with a church, which assists migrants in securing transportation out of the city.

The four individuals accused of assaulting a police officer and obstructing justice, who are believed to have fled the town, have been charged following the disturbing incident that occurred on Saturday in Midtown and was captured on video.

A Manhattan judge has released Darwin Andres Gomez, 19, Kelvin Servita Arocha, 19, Wilson Juarez, 21, and Yorman Reveron, 24, without having to pay any monetary bail.

Reveron, who had previous arrests on his record, was placed on supervised release. It is believed that leaving the city would likely violate the conditions of his court-ordered release.

Reveron has been placed under supervision due to his involvement in two ongoing criminal cases in Manhattan. These charges include an incident where he allegedly assaulted a Nordstrom Rack employee while attempting to steal $130 back in November.

Jhoan Boada, 22, who is the fifth suspect seeking asylum, has been charged with the same offenses. He was also released without bail on Wednesday. Later that night, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) apprehended two additional migrants, namely Jandry Barros, 21, and Yohenry Brito, 24.

The courtroom was filled with dozens of New York’s Finest and representatives from the Police Benevolent Association during Brito’s arraignment on Thursday. It was a significant moment as he became the first among those charged in the attack to be ordered to be held on bail.

According to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, the decision to impose a $15,000 cash bail or a $50,000 bond on Brito was justified. This was based on the fact that Brito had been positively identified in the video footage of the attack, thanks to a “distinct tattoo.”

According to sources and a criminal complaint, he has been arrested four times before for petty larceny. Currently, he has two open cases and has already pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge in September.

Assistant District Attorney Zachary Kotin also made the case that Brito lacked a permanent address or any strong ties to the community, justifying the necessity of bail to ensure his appearance in court. Judge Marisol Martinez Alonzo concurred with this argument and set the bail amount accordingly.

Deporting migrants who have assaulted police officers in NYC should be a priority, especially considering that many of them have been released without bail. It is crucial that we locate these individuals and take the necessary steps to ensure they are held accountable for their actions.

“We came together in full force today to show our unwavering support for our fellow police officer and our Lieutenant, both of whom were viciously assaulted by a gang on the street. Our officer was repeatedly punched and kicked before the attackers fled the scene,” said PBA President Patrick Hendry in a statement following the arraignment.

“The justice system has shown its effectiveness today. Although the individual is currently on bail, we must question why these four individuals were released on their own recognizances instead of being held in jail right away,” he expressed.

“Our criminal system is completely backward,” he exclaimed. “What kind of message does this send to the dedicated New York City police officers who put their lives on the line every day to safeguard the people of this city? If we aren’t adequately protected, how can we expect to protect the residents in our neighborhoods?”

According to a representative from the DA’s office, the key issue at hand is determining whether the individual who was arrested actually played a role in the incident. Currently, there is inadequate evidence to support the claim that he is one of the individuals responsible for this heinous act. The representative further emphasized that they strongly condemn any form of assault on police officers and will prosecute those accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

The investigators from the DA’s office have stated that they are currently reviewing the footage to assess the level of involvement of the five suspects mentioned earlier. On Thursday, the spokesperson also mentioned that the office is currently investigating the allegations that the four released migrants have left the town.

“The defendants’ whereabouts are currently unknown to the Court, but it is imperative that they appear for their scheduled court dates on February 6,” emphasized Al Baker, the spokesperson for the state Office of Court Administration.

Defense lawyers representing the four migrants, who are suspected by law enforcement to be evading capture, did not respond to requests for comment.
