NASHVILLE – According to an announcement made by United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis, two men have been found guilty of multiple crimes related to armed robberies that occurred throughout middle Tennessee.
The verdict was delivered by a federal jury in Nashville last Friday. Fredrick Eugene Carney, a 32-year-old resident of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was found guilty of robbery, bank robbery, illegal possession of ammunition, and exhibiting or discharging a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
Meanwhile, William John Ewing III from Nashville was convicted of bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a violent offence.
The trial, which lasted a week, led to the convictions of both individuals. The charges against them are linked to a series of armed robberies that took place in 2022.
The targeted establishments include two Cash Express businesses located in Ardmore and Greenbrier, respectively. In addition, the Regions Bank in Smyrna and the First Horizon Bank on Whites Creek Pike in Nashville were also targeted.
These incidents occurred between February 18th and May 2nd of that year. Notably, both defendants were acquitted of their alleged involvement in the Cash Express robbery that occurred in Murfreesboro.
Fredrick Carney faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 31 years, possibly extending to life imprisonment in a federal facility due to his strong beliefs.
William Ewing is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years and could also face life imprisonment. The sentencing for both individuals will be determined by United States District Court Judge William Campbell at a later date this year.
