Mocobizscene- Authorities in Long Beach are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 17-year-old girl who has gone missing.
According to the California Highway Patrol, an Ebony Alert has been issued by the Long Beach Police Department for Kayla Higgs. She is described as a Black woman, standing at 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 115 pounds. Kayla has black hair and brown eyes.
Starting from New Year’s Day, California implemented a groundbreaking emergency notification system called Ebony Alert. This innovative system was introduced through legislation authored by Sen. Steven Bradford, D-Gardena.
Law enforcement agencies are now empowered to ask the CHP to activate an alert specifically for Black youth. This includes young women and girls aged 12 to 25 who have gone missing under unexplained or suspicious circumstances, those who are at risk, developmentally disabled, cognitively impaired, or have been abducted.
Higgs disappeared early Saturday morning at the intersection of Broadway and West Florence Avenue in Los Angeles, as reported by the CHP. At the time, she was dressed in a black puffer coat and yellow sweats, carrying a teddy bear backpack. Additionally, Higgs has a tattoo on her left ribcage that reads “Long Beach California.”
