A system is forecasted to develop in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday and is expected to intensify into a significant source of rain and wind as it moves towards the Eastern Seaboard. These impacts are anticipated to persist through Monday.
According to The Weather Channel, portions of Florida are already under flood and wind alerts. The severe weather expected in the region could potentially result in a few tornadoes, as mentioned in a post on X.
Florida Power & Light Co., the largest power utility in the state, is currently addressing the outages resulting from the storm.
In a recent update on X, the company emphasized their swift and secure response to power outages resulting from severe weather conditions in various regions of Florida. The company urges individuals to exercise caution by avoiding downed power lines and damaged electrical equipment. Their prompt actions aim to provide a safe and efficient resolution to these weather-related disruptions.
According to PowerOutage.us, there were just over 7,000 customers who were without electricity as of late Saturday morning.
Sunday’s weather forecast for Florida calls for heavy rain throughout the entire state. There is also a possibility of severe thunderstorms in certain areas, such as Tampa and Orlando, which could potentially bring isolated nocturnal tornadoes.
On Sunday, the storm is forecasted to progress along the East Coast, gaining strength as it moves. Anticipate heavy rainfall and powerful gusts on the mid-Atlantic coast.
Rain is expected to start in New York on late Sunday morning and continue until Monday night. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island, coastal Connecticut, and New London County, as stated in a post on X.
The National Weather Service issued wind advisories for several areas, including Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, southern Westchester, and most of interior southern Connecticut.
The New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services is advising everyone to be ready for a weather system this weekend. The system has the potential to bring up to three inches of rain and could result in flooding in certain areas. These areas include the eastern Catskills, southern Capital Region, and possibly parts of Long Island. It is important to take necessary precautions and prepare for the possibility of flooding.
Governor Kathy Hochul has stated that her office will closely monitor the conditions and provide assistance to local governments in the event of flooding.
According to a post on X, the National Weather Service for Boston reported that Saturday in Boston was a mix of both sunny and cloudy weather. However, they cautioned that the conditions would worsen starting late Sunday and into Monday, as a storm was expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to southern New England.
