A powerful storm is predicted by meteorologists to develop along the East Coast over the weekend, bringing with it strong gusts, rain, and snow.
According to a post on X by the National Weather Center, the upcoming storm is expected to result in a wet and unsettled weekend for a large portion of the East. Additionally, northern areas can anticipate snowfall during this time.
The National Weather Service has issued storm watch alerts for much of the East Coast, including Boston and New York, that will remain in effect throughout the weekend.
The NWS has issued an alert stating that winds as fast as 35 knots per hour are anticipated in the Nantucket and Boston Harbor regions. The alert further mentions that a storm watch is in effect from Sunday night until Monday afternoon.
The alert warns that the hazardous seas caused by very strong winds have the potential to capsize or damage vessels and also reduce visibility.
Meteorologists are predicting strong wind gusts for the New York City region, with speeds reaching up to 50 knots. An alert has been issued for the area, starting from Sunday afternoon and lasting through late Sunday night.
According to Fox Weather, the storm system currently developing along the East Coast is a direct outcome of the recent flooding in the Pacific Northwest. This storm is being caused by a low-pressure system.
Cities such as Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and New York will experience rainfall initially over the weekend before the storm system moves further eastward. Fox Weather predicts that the strong winds will persist until Tuesday, while the rain is anticipated to subside by late Monday.
According to weather forecasts, the East Coast is expected to receive up to 10 inches of snowfall.
