In Alabama, a second woman has been charged for pushing a victim off a cliff

A 22-year-old woman is being held in Alabama on capital murder charges for her role in the murder of a lady in DeKalb County two years ago.

According to jail records, Jessie Eden Kelly, 22, was booked into the Cherokee County Jail on July 22. Kelly and her mother, Loretta Kay Carr, 45, of Fort Payne, were charged last month with capital murder-kidnapping in the death of Mary Elizabeth Isbell in October 2021.

Kelly was arrested on a felony charge of arrest prior to requisition in Pennsylvania on June 25, and she is facing criminal burglary and stealing charges in Douglas County, Missouri.

Isbell’s remains, which had been reported missing for nearly two years, were discovered in Little River Canyon National Park on June 30, on what would have been her 39th birthday.

On December 27, 2021, her ex-husband reported her missing. Hartselle police detectives examined phone data to identify she had been living on Lookout Mountain in DeKalb County.

Authorities said a search of her home and vehicle turned up physical evidence, including traces of a struggle, which was put into a national database.

Her remains were discovered after a tip last month. Authorities suspect Isbell died during the evening of October 18 and the early morning of October 19, 2021.

Following Carr’s arrest, an investigator stated that the three women knew each other through a man.

Though authorities assumed Isbell’s body was somewhere in the park, they didn’t know where it was until they got information from one of the suspects.

Carr has a hearing planned for Wednesday. Her lawyers requested body camera footage from the search of her home and questioning earlier this month, and they want to bar remarks from lawyers and officials on the issue, as well as cameras from her trial.
