Mississippi Man On Vacation In Nashville Charged With Kidnapping, ‘Brutal’ Assault Of Girlfriend

Vandville, Tennessee: The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) has arrested a 23-year-old man from Mississippi who was on vacation in Nashville on Sunday evening for the heinous crime of kidnapping and assaulting his fiancée.

MNPD reports that Bricen John Rivers and his 22-year-old fiancée have been on vacation in Nashville at a short-term rental since last Thursday. The two went to a tavern in the downtown area on Sunday night, but Rivers became irate, and they were forced to leave.

Police say Rivers began to strike the woman and steal her phone while they were in the vehicle. He subsequently halted in a parking lot, where he beat her so severely that she was on the verge of unconsciousness. The location of the girl to Scovel Street and 9th Street, where officers were stationed, was communicated to them by her family.

Officers reportedly overheard the girl banging on the vehicle in an attempt to escape; she managed to free herself and flee before they arrived. Although officers were able to prevent Rivers from reaching for a firearm in the back seat, they were subsequently arrested.

The police anticipate that the victim will recover completely. Rivers is accused of interfering with an emergency call and aggravated abduction. He is detained on a bond of $251,000.
