Mocobizscene– On Sunday, a tragic accident occurred in Elizabeth, resulting in the loss of both a taxi driver and a passenger. According to the driver’s employer, the other vehicle involved in the crash was reported stolen.
The taxi driver involved in the fatal crash along Route 1&9 has been identified as Juan Alvear, 54.
Alvear’s family members were seen on Monday leaving flowers at the location where he tragically lost his life. He was in the process of driving a woman to the train station when the accident occurred. Unfortunately, the woman also passed away in the crash, but her identity has yet to be disclosed.
A nearby gas station’s security camera captured the crash incident. The video footage clearly shows a blue Hyundai disregarding the red light and colliding with the taxi. The driver’s side of the cab absorbed the majority of the impact.
A tragic car crash in Elizabeth has resulted in the loss of two lives, with two individuals arrested and one still being sought by the police.
David Yepez, the nephew of Alvear, expressed relief that his family did not have to witness their loved one suffering. He acknowledged that their journey has been difficult, but found solace in the fact that Alvear’s passing was instantaneous.
Alvear was employed by Mega Cab company when a stolen Hyundai collided with his cab, according to the manager. Manager Miguel Suriel explains that the individuals involved were driving a stolen car and were being pursued by the police.
The Union County Prosecutor has not yet disclosed the identities of the three individuals in the Hyundai who allegedly ran the red light. Investigators have revealed that one of the occupants fled from the scene of the crash. The family set up a GoFundMe page in order to raise funds for the purpose of sending Alvear’s remains to Ecuador for burial.
