Woman’s hand bitten by priest during dispute over Holy Communion, authorities report

In an unexpected turn of events, a priest in Florida found himself involved in a physical altercation while administering Communion to the congregants of his church. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in the priest biting a woman’s hand. This shocking incident has left officials bewildered and the community in disbelief.

During Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in St. Cloud, Florida, an incident unfolded between a priest and a female parishioner. It all started around 10 a.m. on Sunday when the woman approached Father Fidel Rodriguez’s Holy Communion line. The Diocese of Orlando stated that the woman seemed unaware of the proper procedure.

According to a statement, it was found that the woman was not ready or willing to partake in Communion after a short conversation. Father Rodriguez then proceeded to give her a blessing and advised her to receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) before returning to receive Holy Communion (Eucharist).

According to the Diocese of Orlando, during Mass on Sunday, the woman who arrived at 12 p.m. stood in Father Rodriguez’s Communion line. When he asked her if she had been to the Sacrament of Penance (Confession), she replied that it was not his business.

According to the statement from the Diocese of Orlando, the woman was promptly asked to leave.

Officials clarified that Father Rodriguez was not aware of the woman’s background beforehand. They also stated that although the Diocese of Orlando does not endorse physical altercations, Father Rodriguez acted in good faith by trying to prevent the desecration of the Holy Communion. As a priest, he felt obligated to protect it.

The priest has not been charged with any crimes by the authorities at this time, but there is a possibility that he could be charged once the investigation is concluded. Officials have not provided any information regarding the injuries the woman may have sustained during the altercation.

In the Catholic tradition, the Eucharist holds great significance as the ultimate expression of worship and faith, according to the Diocese of Orlando. It is regarded as “the source and summit” of the Catholic faith. As such, the act of partaking in Holy Communion requires a deep understanding, profound reverence, and unwavering devotion.

“The Diocese of Orlando strongly believes in the importance of respecting all individuals, regardless of their faith, and ensuring that their religious ceremonies or services are never disrupted,” stated officials.

The Diocese of Orlando has chosen not to provide any additional comments regarding the incident, stating that the investigation is still underway.
