Woman Who Died From Rare Disease To Be Honored With One-Of-A-Kind Memorial

Mocobizscene-  In a unique mission to “deep space,” a South Florida woman who lost her battle against Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is being remembered. PSP is a rare but deadly disease. Eileen Trautman left behind a profound legacy of love before her passing in 2021.

Jennifer Trautman Levin, the daughter, expressed her deep affection for her mother by saying, “She’s like, she’s like my everything.” In 2016, Levin shared that her mom received a diagnosis that initially appeared to be Parkinson’s disease, according to doctors.

After a few months, it became evident that the situation was far more grave. She received a diagnosis of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a condition that shares similarities with ALS.

According to Levin, this disease is often described as being imprisoned in one’s own body, as the individual remains fully aware. He emphasized that his mother, up until her last few days in the ICU, was conscious, highlighting the immense emotional and psychological distress caused by this condition.

People with the brain disorder experience severe difficulties with walking, balance, eye movements, and eventually, swallowing. Over time, the condition deteriorates, resulting in severe complications that can be life-threatening. Levin admitted that his sister had a better acceptance of her illness than he did, even though they both knew that there was no cure for it.

Levin is making her mom’s lifelong dream of going to space a reality. Her mom has always been a devoted “Star Trek” fan, and now, through Levin, that dream is coming true. Celestis Memorial Spaceflights is a company that specializes in launching small capsules filled with DNA or cremated remains into space.

Celestis President Colby Youngblood expressed that there is a significant number of individuals who, upon hearing this, enthusiastically declare, “Yes, that is precisely what I desire for my ashes.”

Access to space flight has increased, and as a result, there has been a surge in interest in the program, according to Youngblood. According to the speaker, the cost of the “journey” can vary depending on the desired type, ranging from $3,000 to $13,000. He mentioned that this cost is similar to the expenses incurred for funerals in the United States.

Through this one-of-a-kind memorial, Levin finds solace in being able to honor her mother’s desires of venturing into the “final frontier.” With a sigh, she expressed her longing to have been able to tell her mother, “Look mom, I’m going to do this for you.”
