“Taya had her whole life ahead of her, a life that she deserved to experience to the fullest. It is distressing that black transgender women are still being targeted and killed in our country. This violence is absolutely unacceptable. It is crucial for everyone, including friends, family, community organizers, and allies, to raise their voices with urgency. We must put an end to the stigma and violence that transgender and gender non-conforming individuals encounter,” emphasized Lindsey Clark, Associate Director of the Transgender Justice Initiative at HRC, as reported by PEOPLE.
