A World War II veteran has had the privilege of witnessing the passage of multiple generations, including the arrival of his great-great-granddaughter.
Dewey Muirhead, a former member of the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, was in for an emotional surprise when his granddaughter, Lexie Fowler, took him to a mysterious photo shoot.
Lexie hired a photographer to capture her newborn, Millie, with her 101-year-old great-grandfather. According to The New York Post, the photographer generously offers free photo sessions for veterans. They wanted to surprise the great-grandfather and capture his genuine reaction on camera.
Lexie shared that when she informed her about her pregnancy, her immediate response was to suggest taking photos with her great-grandfather to commemorate the five generations.
In a viral TikTok video that garnered over 6 million views, Dewey can be seen wearing a blindfold for the highly anticipated big reveal. As the camera captured a series of snapshots, he finally discovered what all the excitement was about.

Lexie’s husband took off the blindfold, revealing to the WWII veteran the sight of his great-great-granddaughter. As soon as he comprehended the situation, a wave of emotions washed over him, evident through his visible display of deep sentiment.
Dewey leaned in to cradle the baby in his arms, gently planting a loving kiss on her tiny forehead.
“What on earth are you up to?” he exclaimed, his voice trembling with emotion. “Oh my, isn’t she absolutely stunning? Just look at her,” he said, tears welling up in his eyes.
Lexie expressed her deep admiration for the incredible experience she had witnessed. She recounted the heartwarming sight of her great-grandfather gently cradling the baby in his arms, bringing a sense of comfort and peace to the little one. It seemed as if this precious moment was what he had been eagerly waiting for, all those years.
The WWII Vet’s Family Will “Cherish” The Moment “Forever”
During World War II, Dewey served in Germany, France, and Belgium. Prior to his deployment, he tied the knot with his wife, Inez, and they enjoyed a remarkable 79 years of marriage. Unfortunately, Inez passed away in 2021.
Lexie expressed her certainty that when he went to war, he had no idea if he would survive and return home to his wife, let alone have the opportunity to meet his great-great-grandchild. She emphasized the significance of this particular child being the first in the family to hold such a title, making the moment exceptionally precious for him. Lexie recalled a photograph capturing the heartfelt emotion in his eyes as he held the baby, tears welling up in his eyes.
Even at the age of 100, Dewey maintains a high level of independence in his life. While he does receive assistance from his family and the VA, he still lives on his own and takes care of his daily routines. This gives Lexie hope that he will be able to witness Millie’s growth firsthand.
“We recorded it with the intention of showing it to Millie in the future,” Lexie added.
“If there’s one message I could share with everyone, it would be to treasure those precious moments with your family. It’s incredible how God has blessed us with this opportunity to dedicate it to Him and our loved ones, and to have the chance to share it with people all over the world,” she expressed. “These are memories that will forever hold a special place in our hearts.”
