In a heartwarming gesture to honor the memory of a fallen army major, a national nonprofit organization has paid off the entire mortgage of his grieving family. This selfless act took place on Memorial Day, serving as a poignant tribute to the sacrifice made by the brave soldier.
Army Major Thomas “TK” Kennedy lost his life in 2012 while serving overseas in Afghanistan, due to a suicide bomber, as stated by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
Kennedy’s life was tragically cut short on August 8, 2012, just a few weeks before his twin children, Maggie and Brody, were about to celebrate their second birthday. His sudden passing left behind his loving wife Kami along with the twins.
In honor of Maj. Kennedy this Memorial Day, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has generously cleared the mortgage for the family’s home in Peachtree Corners. Following his passing, the family relocated to Georgia to be in closer proximity to loved ones.
Kami Kennedy expressed her gratitude for the support she received from Tunnel to Towers, stating that it has allowed her to prioritize her twins. She emphasized the incredible sense of security that comes with having a mortgage-free home.
Major Kennedy, a native of New York state, received his military commission in 2000 after attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He bravely served two tours in Iraq and one tour in Afghanistan. Additionally, it is worth noting that in his younger years, he had a passion for playing hockey, as shared by the foundation.
After the death of the major, the West Point Men’s Hockey Locker Room underwent a renaming and dedication ceremony in his honor. Additionally, his jersey number, “10,” was retired the following year.
West Point also provides the MAJ Tom Kennedy Leadership and Learning Application Award, which is awarded to members of the Brigade Tactical Department who have made significant contributions during their time at West Point.
“MAJ Kennedy demonstrated exceptional leadership both on the ice with the West Point hockey team and on the battlefield. This Memorial Day, we pay tribute to his memory and send a powerful message to Kami and her twins that his service, leadership, and sacrifice will always be remembered,” stated Frank Siller, Chairman & CEO of Tunnel to Towers.
