This accreditation is a testament to the laboratory’s commitment and high standards of performance. Additionally, it denotes the Crime Scene Unit being accredited for the first time and the NOPD’s Firearms and Advanced Crime Scene Units being re-accredited.

This was disclosed by the ANAB to the Crime Lab via letter dated November 15, 2023. The letter emphasized that the accreditation is the result of the organization’s substantial preparation and investment of resources. The accomplishment is noteworthy for the NOPD Crime Lab.

The Director of the NOPD Crime Lab, Dr. Shamika Kelley, commended her team’s endeavors in successfully attaining this objective. She commended the attention to detail and commitment of her team in upholding elevated benchmarks.

Additionally, Dr. Kelley stated that the laboratory’s work is not complete. They intend to enhance their policies and procedures in order to maintain their existing accreditations.
