Texas City man’s killer sentenced to 40 years in prison for road rage shooting

Mocobizscene-  A man from Texas City has pleaded guilty to a road rage shooting that resulted in the death of the owner of Bayou Bistro and Bar in Galveston County last year. As a result, he is now facing a potentially lengthy sentence.

On January 23rd, Messiah James Pickens-McCoy admitted guilt in court. A judge handed down a 40-year prison sentence to Pickens-McCoy on Tuesday. On January 26, 2022, authorities reported that Pickens-McCoy started shooting multiple rounds towards the bar owner’s vehicle as they approached an intersection on Highway 3.

The shooting was recorded on video by a camera installed in a car behind Sharretts and Pickens-McCoy, according to investigators. According to reports, a police officer from Texas City heard the sounds of gunshots and observed Pickens-McCoy driving at a speed exceeding 100 miles per hour on Amburn Road.

The officer attempted to stop him, but he disregarded the signal and eventually parked at a nearby apartment complex, as per investigators. According to law enforcement officials, Pickens-McCoy was operating the vehicle, while his brother, Noah Pickens-McCoy, was accompanying him as a passenger. It is worth mentioning that authorities discovered a Glock 9mm handgun and an empty magazine within the car.

Investigators discovered a spent shell casing near the windshield wiper blades of the vehicle. Pickens-McCoy faced charges of murder, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, and unlawful possession of a firearm as a felon. The defendant admitted his guilt for the murder charge on Tuesday, yet the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting remain unclear.
