Mocobizscene- An 18-year-old has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a man on the east side of Indianapolis two years ago.
Tiyuan Johnson has been sentenced to 45 years in prison by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. The sentence is in relation to the shooting death of Kevan Akbar, who was 27 years old at the time of the incident on October 29, 2022.
Last week, Johnson admitted to committing murder and possessing a machine gun in Marion Superior Court 28. Both of these charges are considered level 5 felonies. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately, he did not survive. During their investigation, detectives were able to identify Johnson as a suspect by analyzing security footage obtained from the gas station.
According to the MCPO, the footage revealed a woman getting out of a parked vehicle near the one where Akbar was discovered on the night of his death. She was seen leaving her vehicle, entering the gas station, and then returning to enter Akbar’s vehicle.
According to the MCPO, Johnson and another man were observed entering the gas station several times and engaging in conversations with Akbar. MCPO reported that detectives found a cell phone at the crime scene, which allegedly had Johnson’s fingerprints on it. Additionally, the phone’s home screen displayed a photo of Johnson.
