Teen, 14, accused of purposely hitting NYPD officer with dirt bike during robbery arrest in NYC

Mocobizscene- A 14-year-old suspect accused of robbery was apprehended on Monday evening in Brooklyn, after allegedly colliding with an NYPD officer using a dirt bike, according to authorities.

According to police, the teenager and his accomplice were trying to escape after committing a robbery at West 6th Street and Neptune Avenue in Coney Island. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. when the young individual collided with a police officer while riding his 2021 Zhejiang Koolcnchet XB87 dirt bike.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital, where authorities reported that he was in stable condition. The boy, whose name has not been officially released due to his status as a minor, was taken to Maimonides Medical Center. He is currently in stable condition.

The second suspect, dressed in all black, fled the scene on a black two-wheeled vehicle, according to the police. The police currently have limited information regarding the initial robbery that prompted their presence at the scene on Tuesday.

In a series of recent crimes, there have been incidents where motorists have been involved in collisions with on-duty NYPD officers. Last Wednesday, Tino Zalivar, 57, was taken into custody for reportedly hitting a police officer with his Jeep on South Railroad Avenue near Hamden Avenue in Staten Island, according to law enforcement officials. According to authorities, the officer was retrieving documents from his cruiser when Zaldivar struck him, causing him to be hospitalized.

Zaldivar initially ran away from the scene, but the authorities apprehended him later on. He faced numerous charges, including assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and reckless endangerment of property, according to the police.

In late January, an NYPD officer attempted to stop a hit-and-run driver on Vermilyea Avenue near West 204th Street in Inwood for an observed violation. However, the driver rammed into the officer in an attempt to escape. Days before the incident, according to authorities, Sahara Dula, 24, deliberately collided with a police officer who was attempting to redirect her while driving in the wrong direction on the Upper East Side.

In the Mount Eden section of the Bronx, last month, a moped rider deliberately collided with an NYPD cop who attempted to apprehend him at 171st Street and Morris Avenue, according to police reports. In December, there were two strikingly audacious incidents involving officers in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and North Corona, Queens, according to the police.

According to an exclusive report by The Post on Sunday, it has been revealed that NYPD officers are facing an alarming increase in assaults by suspects. In fact, the latest statistics from the NYPD indicate that a staggering 4,077 officers have been injured in the first nine months of 2023 alone. This alarming trend suggests that the total number of injuries could reach a record-breaking 5,436 by the end of the year.

The official release of the data for the last quarter of 2023 is still pending.
