A suspect, who was wanted in connection with a shooting at Kennesaw State University, has been apprehended.
Samuel Harris, the suspect, has been apprehended by the police, as confirmed by school officials.
Harris faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. It is important to note that Harris is not a student at Kennesaw State.
A tragic incident occurred at the university as it was confirmed that a female student lost her life after a heated argument in front of the Austin Residence Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Harris attempted to escape but was eventually apprehended. The authorities have not disclosed the age or identity of the victim.
Robert Bowns was studying when the deadly gunfire erupted just a few feet away.
Bowns recalled, “I could only hear the sound of gunshots, about seven or eight in total. Just five minutes later, I received a report from the campus stating that there was an armed intruder on the premises.”
At 4:07 p.m., an urgent alert was issued, advising individuals on campus to remain vigilant and secure their doors and windows.
Bowns recalled that the incident took place during the early hours when classes could potentially be in session.
At 4:43 pm, KSU Emergency Management declared it safe to exit. Police maintained the closure of Campus Loop Road behind the Austin Resident Complex for several hours. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrived to assist in collecting evidence.
KSU President Kathy S. Schwaig expressed her heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends, acknowledging the immense difficulty they must be going through.
Kennesaw State University is actively offering assistance and valuable resources to individuals impacted by the tragic shooting incident.
An armed intruder has prompted a “KSU Alert” for the second time this year.
In January, students and staff experienced a tense situation when they were instructed to shelter in place for several hours due to reports of a person with a gun on campus. According to police, three suspects had fled to the university’s campus following a carjacking incident in DeKalb County. It was revealed that at least one of the suspects was in possession of a gun when the stolen car was sighted in Cobb County.
