Wyatt Fluty, who shot at a highway patrol trooper during last year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, has been sentenced after striking a plea deal with the state. The sentence was handed down in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The Sturgis Rally shooting suspect recently made an appearance in court prior to his trial.
The Big D gas station was the scene of a recent incident where a highway patrol trooper asked Fluty to stop, but he responded by firing shots at the trooper. Fortunately, a Minnesota Deputy who happened to be on vacation in Sturgis rushed to the scene to provide assistance. Although Fluty was shot, he received prompt medical attention once he was apprehended.
The court has sentenced Fluty to a 50-year prison term for attempting to murder a law enforcement officer. Additionally, he has been given a five-year consecutive sentence for committing a felony while carrying a firearm.
A Wyoming man has pleaded guilty to shooting at a South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper.
Fluty, when asked for a statement, expressed his concern for his mother rather than himself, stating, “I don’t feel bad for myself. I feel bad for my mother.”
According to the sentence given, Fluty must serve a minimum of 75% of his 50-year sentence before he can be considered for parole.
