On Thursday, a householder armed with a hammer recollects defending his Norwalk residence against an intruder who had broken in.
At approximately 1:45 a.m., while the victim and his spouse were completely asleep, the incident occurred. Their canines abruptly awakened them with their menacing howls.
“[The dogs] are not typically loud barkers, but their bark was extremely deep,” Kevin Perez, the victim, remarked.
Perez initially observed nothing when he surveyed his residence until he detected motion in his office. He abruptly noticed an intruder silhouetted in the darkness.
“It was probably one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever encountered when I saw him,” he remarked.
The 32-year-old suspect, identified as Armando Torres, was discovered shoeless and standing in Perez’s residence.
“I yelled at him,” recalled Perez. “I responded, ‘What are you doing inside?'” Remove yourself!’ After forcing us to seal the door, he attempted to leap from the window he had climbed into.
The filthy handprints of the suspect remain visible on the office door. Perez stated that he pursued Torres and caught hold of his leg prior to his ability to flee.
“My intention was to drag him back inside the house so I could secure him with a pin and inspect his belongings,” he explained.
With the assistance of the suspect dangling from the window, he was ultimately able to escape. Perez, out of concern for the safety of his family, seized a mallet and initiated a pursuit of Torres along the street.
“When he tripped, I immediately jumped on top of him and said, ‘Dude, stop moving.'” Perez stated, “My fiancée has already called the police.” “Upon noticing that I was holding the hammer, I warned him, ‘I will strike you if you make any movement.'” As he then attempted to seize the mallet, I withdrew. “If you attempt that once more, I will strike you in the head.”
Torres was subsequently detained by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies on suspicion of burglary. They consider the individual to be homeless. On bail in the amount of $50,000, he is detained.
When asked if he was concerned that the suspect might attempt to stab or shoot him, Perez responded that his fighting and protective instincts had just activated.
“I didn’t consider it,” stated Perez. “I suppose it ought to have occurred to me, but I honestly didn’t [consider it], especially since my fiancée was following me.”Perez provided some guidance to property owners who might be confronted with an intruder.
He stated, “I believe that having a plan is the most essential thing you can do.” “And subsequently, simply adhering to the strategy.”
No one was injured and Torres did not depart with any personal belongings, according to him. On December 11, the suspect is scheduled to appear in court.
