Mocobizscene-Officials announced on Monday morning that the convicted sex offender who had managed to escape from a prison near Houston on Sunday has been successfully captured in a neighboring county.
Authorities said that Robert Yancy Jr. was apprehended in Matagorda County, which is approximately 45 miles southwest of the Brazoria County prison. He is now facing felony escape charges.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced that two additional individuals, Leonor Priestle and Russell Williams, have been apprehended in Victoria, Texas, for their alleged involvement in assisting the escape of Curtis Yancy. Leonor Priestle is facing charges of permitting or facilitating escape, while Russell Williams has been charged with criminal intent to escape, according to a statement released by the Office of Inspector General.
According to a statement on social media by the Brazoria County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, he managed to flee in a white Nissan Versa at approximately 3:38 p.m. on Sunday. It was noted that his mother was in the car with him at the time of the escape.
Authorities were alerted when a statewide plate reader system detected the Nissan’s license plate. According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle was spotted in Victoria County at approximately 6:09 p.m., about 110 miles west of Brazoria.
The Victoria Police Department reported that at approximately 8:25 p.m., officers pulled over a white Nissan in connection with the escaped inmate. The sole occupant of the vehicle, a woman, was arrested due to an outstanding warrant linked to Yancy’s escape.
The department did not disclose her identity or provide any information about her connection with Yancy then. The second arrest by the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office has not been disclosed with any specific details.
