According to authorities, a dispute erupted between a recreational angler and a commercial fisherman near the Florida Keys on Tuesday morning, which almost resulted in a fatal outcome. In an alarming turn of events, the angler fired a rifle across the bow of the other man’s boat, putting both their lives in danger.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which is the lead investigating agency, the incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. on the oceanside of the Keys, approximately seven miles off Rodriguez Key, located east of Key Largo.
According to Arielle Cellender, a spokeswoman for FWC, the dispute between the two men started when their boats were in close proximity to each other.
According to Callender, George Webster Dixon, aged 77 and residing in Key Largo, fired his rifle twice in the direction of the other boat. FWC officers and a Coast Guard crew from Station Islamorada responded to the scene and apprehended Dixon. Monroe County jail records show that Dixon is currently detained without bond on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and firing a weapon, both of which are considered felonies.
