According to WLOX, the upcoming 2024 presidential election is fast approaching, and there is speculation that Vice President Kamala Harris may be the Democratic Party’s nominee. This follows President Biden’s decision to not run for re-election.
Curley Clark, the NAACP President of Jackson County and a Democratic 4th District delegate, is not bothered by this.
Clark shared that the NAACP had faith in the president and his policies. According to him, the national president, Derrick Johnson, emphasized the organization’s focus on policies rather than individuals. Clark believes that Johnson wanted to ensure that Kamala was capable of leading the organization if anything were to happen to him.
According to him, she has the potential to bring a new perspective and connect with important voters, adding a much-needed freshness to the party.
Clark believes that Kamala leading the ticket is going to energize two groups in particular – women and younger voters. “And in my opinion, that’s women and younger voters. I think they’re going to be energized by Kamala leading the ticket now,” Clark said.
According to Clark, it would be great if Harris could visit Mississippi for campaigning. However, he thinks that she should prioritize focusing on the battleground states and highlighting crucial issues, such as reproductive rights.
According to Clark, Mississippi is a predominantly conservative state, and although it is possible to turn it from red to blue with diligent efforts, it may be more practical for presidential candidates to focus on other states such as Wisconsin in order to secure the necessary electoral votes.
In expressing his gratitude towards President Biden and his service to the country, Clark appeals to democratic voters to unite for the upcoming election.
Clark emphasized the need for unity, saying, “It’s crucial that we bring all the different factors together and communicate with one voice to the American people about what’s at stake.”
From August 19-22, Chicago will host the Democratic National Convention.
