Mocobizscene-IMPD officers took action on Saturday night by shutting down Lafayette Rd. between 16th St. and Cold Spring Rd. for almost two hours. This decisive move was made in order to clear protestors from the roadway.
IMPD officers quickly responded to an event center in the 1700 block of Lafayette at around 5 p.m. Their prompt arrival was in response to a group of individuals who were protesting the evening. The officers asked the protestors to leave the premises.
According to the police, the group entered the roadway and obstructed the flow of traffic.
According to a police spokesperson, protestors witnessed a vehicle approaching them closely, resulting in some individuals jumping on cars.
The protestors cleared the roadway following a substantial police response, and officers started permitting traffic flow shortly after 7 p.m. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) announced that they have apprehended three individuals.
The scene was captured in pictures, showcasing numerous individuals proudly waving signs and flags. Among the signs was one that caught attention, bearing the powerful message “Regime Change in Eritrea.”
According to a witness at the scene, the group was protesting against the Eritrean dictatorship, while supporters of the current government arrived to disrupt the event.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) acknowledged the event and assured the public that they would closely observe the protest throughout the evening.
