Possible Gang-Related Violence Leads To Home Health Aide Being Struck By Stray Bullet Near NYC Playground

A stray bullet hit a home health aide while she was walking with her elderly patient near a Brooklyn playground on Monday. Police believe that this incident was a result of gang-related gun violence, based on sources and witnesses.

A woman, aged 43, who was simply standing by, got struck in her right arm shortly before noon. The incident took place outside an apartment complex on Neptune Avenue near West 37th Street in Coney Island, as reported by authorities. The woman was transported to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn where authorities stated that she was expected to make a full recovery.

As they strolled near a playground, the unintended victim found themselves in the midst of gunshots. The senior she was caring for, a 96-year-old resident of the complex, accompanied her on the walk. These details were shared by a security guard at the building, who preferred to remain anonymous.

According to the guard, it appeared that the gunshots were a consequence of a confrontation that had extended from a neighboring housing project.

According to another building staff member, four men emerged from the nearby projects. At that moment, the elderly woman was taking a walk with a man who relied on a walker. The incident occurred when the shots were fired, leaving her stunned. It seemed as though she was unaware that she had been shot initially.
