Mocobizscene- The New York Police Department (NYPD) is currently on the lookout for four individuals who approached a church and caused damage to a crucifix and stained glass windows. This incident occurred on January 27th, shortly before 3 a.m. The religious institution, situated at 2245 Kimball Street, was targeted by these suspects. The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force has taken charge of the investigation, treating this incident as a potential hate crime.
The Diocese of Brooklyn has expressed deep concern regarding the hate crime that occurred at St. Columba Roman Catholic Church in Marine Park. The incident involved several unsuccessful attempts to enter the church through a side door, as well as the damaging of a stained-glass window. The surveillance video unveiled the perpetrators’ endeavor to remove the Cross from the church’s exterior wall and their subsequent infliction of punctures at the base of the Cross.
With Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Lenten season just a week away, the Diocese hopes that these individuals will experience a change of heart during this time of repentance and seek forgiveness for their transgressions against the parish. The growing number of hate crimes targeting various places of worship and individuals of different faiths in New York City is a cause for alarm.
Such persecution goes against the fundamental principle of religious freedom upon which this nation is built. The Diocese extends its gratitude to the New York City Police Department for their swift response and ongoing investigation.
