Police Arrest 4 Long Island Teenagers For Stolen Loaded Gun From Mississippi

Police say they received a 911 call on Thursday night from a man in Hempstead, Long Island, who reported being assaulted by four men in a black sedan. This call prompted the police to locate a 2019 Infiniti with “dark tinted” windows on Laurel Avenue.

According to the police, there were four extremely anxious teenage boys inside the car. The police officers stopped the vehicle and instructed the teenagers to exit the car.

During a sworn deposition, Officer Nkeico U. Green of the Hempstead Police recalls that the police officers present at the scene observed that the four young men were visibly frightened to the point where they were trembling.

According to P.O. Green, as they were conducting a frisk on the young men for weapons, one of his partners caught sight of something through the window of the Infiniti. On the passenger side, there was an item protruding from the front seat pocket.

It turns out that, according to reports, it was indeed a gun. Upon closer examination, it was discovered that the weapon in question was a Ruger LC9 that was fully loaded and equipped with a high-capacity magazine, according to Green.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the loaded gun found by the police had been stolen in Mississippi, according to Green.

Four teenagers were arrested and taken into custody following the incident. The individuals involved were Cordell Rowe, 18, who had been sitting in the back seat, and Kareem Maraga, 18, who was in the front seat. The two younger companions, whose identities were not disclosed due to their ages, were also apprehended.

During their arraignments the following day, Rowe’s attorney informed the judge that he is currently a high school student, while Maraga’s lawyer stated that he is enrolled as a student at Manhattan Community College.

Four teenagers were arraigned on Friday before Georffrey Prime and Tammy Robbins. They were charged with possession of a loaded gun under New York Penal Laws 265.03.03 and 265.01.B, possession of an ammo clip under PL 265.02.08, and criminal possession of stolen property.

Surprisingly, the young defendants were not charged with the alleged assault that triggered the 911 call and initiated the entire incident. The alleged traffic stop does not warrant any traffic ticket for the violations mentioned in the court filings.

During Rowe’s arraignment, the Assistant District Attorney pointed out that Rowe’s identification shows him as a resident of Florida, which is located next to Mississippi. This raised concerns about his potential to flee.

According to criminal defense lawyer Joseph Megale, Rowe’s mother resides in Florida, while her teenage son resides in Elmhurst with other family members, including an aunt and the grandmother who appeared during Rowe’s court session. Additionally, Rowe holds a part-time position at the front desk of a local hotel chain. Megale emphasized that his client, despite being young, poses no flight risk and will attend all scheduled court sessions.

However, Judge Geoffrey Prime granted bail to both individuals, setting it at $50,000. Both individuals are currently being held in custody at the county jail.
