Organized retail theft operation in Arizona leads to arrests

Police have arrested two individuals in connection with an organized retail theft scheme that resulted in the theft of millions of dollars worth of merchandise from businesses located in Oro Valley and various parts of Pima, Pinal, and Maricopa counties.

According to a news release from the Oro Valley Police Department, a company located in Connecticut purchased the merchandise.

In October 2023, OVPD received a notification about the suspected theft and sale of merchandise by Nicholas Miller, a local man, and his co-conspirators.

In collaboration with Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Postal Inspectors, along with the Arizona Attorney General’s Office, it was uncovered that the operation’s members had pilfered a total of $2.3 million worth of goods throughout a period of three years.

According to the news release, Miller was suspected of earning a profit of over $475,000.

Two homes, a storage unit, and three vehicles were searched on July 24th, along with additional warrants being executed in Connecticut, according to a news release. The release stated that over $9,000 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered, along with tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of collectible items.

Authorities apprehended Miller and his alleged accomplice, Allison Hunt, for their involvement in the thefts.

The investigation remains ongoing.
