Officials arrested suspect accused of shooting 5-year-old girl in the Bronx

Mocobizscene-  A fugitive, who was sought after in relation to a shooting incident that caused harm to a 5-year-old girl, has been apprehended, as announced by the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York on Thursday.

Austin Morrishow has been evading authorities since June 2023, when the shooting incident took place, according to officials. The police have identified Austin Morrishow, aged 26, and Curtis White, also 26, from the Bronx, as the individuals responsible for firing multiple shots near East 213th Street and White Plains Road.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams strongly criticized Austin Morrishow for his reckless actions, firing multiple rounds of illegally possessed ammunition at innocent New Yorkers. As a result, a young child was struck and injured, while the lives of other bystanders were put in danger. Williams emphasized that instead of taking responsibility for his actions, Morrishow chose to flee and remained a fugitive for over seven months. Today’s arrest signifies the fulfillment of the promise made by law enforcement authorities to relentlessly pursue and apprehend fugitives, regardless of the time it takes, and ensure that they face justice.

According to witnesses, White was spotted sprinting down the street in pursuit of the fleeing vehicles, while firing a .380 caliber pistol.

According to the States Attorney’s office, Morrishow had a previous federal conviction that prohibited him from possessing a firearm. Likewise, White, the other shooter, was also barred from owning a gun due to a past conviction for attempted first-degree assault with the intent to cause serious injury with a weapon.

Morrishow and White both face charges of possessing ammunition following a felony conviction. If the defendants are found guilty, they could potentially be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
