Family and friends are coming together on Thursday morning to bid a final farewell to the NYPD recruit who passed away last week, just a few days before his graduation.
Edgar Ordonez, a probationary officer who is 33 years old, collapsed while at a shooting range due to a medical condition.
While in the academy, it is suspected that the officer was completing his firearms testing in preparation for graduation. The authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine if the officer may have experienced heat stroke or a heart attack.
Hundreds of officers, along with Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, paid their respects at his funeral in the Bronx.
