New Birth to host memorial service for U.S. Airman killed by deputy

A U.S. Airman who was fatally shot by a Florida deputy at his apartment will be laid to rest on Friday in metro Atlanta.

Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson, 23, tragically lost his life when an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy fatally shot him in his off-base apartment in Fort Walton Beach on May 3.

Fortson, a native of DeKalb County, and an alum of McNair High School, will be honored with a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, hosted by New Birth Missionary Baptist Church.
