Mother arrested in Miami after police discover ‘foul odor’ on children

Mocobizscene- Miami Circuit Judge Mindy Glazer expressed her horror and dismay after reading the details of the case in court on Thursday. She described the situation as “horrific” and “horrible.”

Beverly Barton, 45, is facing charges of child neglect and providing false information to law enforcement, as stated in an arrest report. The police interrogated Barton when they observed that three of her children, aged 8 to 14, seemed unclean, emitted a strong odor, and were dressed in filthy clothes.

During that time, detectives reported that Barton provided law enforcement officials with a false name, claiming to be “Evelyn Martin.”

The woman informed the police that her children were enrolled in the virtual program offered by Miami-Dade Public Schools. However, upon investigation, detectives discovered that there were no records of the children attending any school. According to her arrest report, she provided detectives with inaccurate information about the gender of her children during her conversation with the police.

Glazer questioned the accuracy of the description, stating that the two individuals referred to as boys are actually girls. He also expressed concern about their lack of school enrollment, raising the question as to why this situation is not being considered as three counts of child neglect.

According to the report, it was mentioned that Barton had previously left the teenager alone when she went to buy alcohol. However, she denied this allegation during her court appearance. According to jail records, Barton has previously faced court proceedings related to child neglect.

Glazer pointed out that he noticed a previous conviction for child neglect in 2002. The court also learned that the Florida Department of Children and Families had taken away custody of six children from her in the past.
