MBS News – Mississippi’s State Auditor initiated legal action against former NFL quarterback Brett Favre on Monday, claiming that Favre owes the state approximately $730,000 in interest. This is in connection to the misuse of over $1 million in welfare funds for personal endeavors.
In the legal documents, Auditor Shad White stated that Favre had no legitimate claim to the $1.1 million, highlighting Favre’s role in a significant welfare fraud case. This involved the misallocation of welfare funds intended for needy families to finance a volleyball facility at the University of Southern Mississippi, Favre’s alma mater and where his daughter was a volleyball player.
Favre has already reimbursed the state $1.1 million through two installments in 2020 and 2021. However, according to the recent court documents, Favre is still liable for $729,790 in interest on top of the initial amount.
In the previous year, Favre initiated legal action for defamation against White and two renowned sports commentators, Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee. The case against McAfee was withdrawn following a public apology from McAfee, and the lawsuit against Sharpe was dismissed in October.

Despite the allegations, Favre has consistently denied any misconduct and has yet to face criminal charges.
