Good news for those eagerly awaiting spring: it seems that the snow is finally over and Old Man Winter is ready to call it quits.
According to the National Weather Service, we can finally say goodbye to the chilly temperatures in the 30s and expect a forecast of warmer, spring-like weather.
One of the first signs that spring has arrived is the closure of many beloved ski slopes across New York. Recently, one of these slopes announced that they are officially done for the season.
McCauley Mountain Ski Area Bids Farewell
The ski season in Central New York proved to be exceptional, particularly in the latter part of winter, which saw an abundance of fresh snow. This allowed ski enthusiasts to relish the sport well into spring, a trend further amplified by last week’s significant snowstorm.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and McCauley Mountain Ski Area in Old Forge has announced that they are closing for the season.
The popular resort happily declared on Thursday that Mother Nature ultimately determines the end of their season, and this year she graciously granted them a fantastic “last weekend.”
Due to the substantial decrease in snowfall and the absence of snow in the upcoming forecast, the resort has made the difficult decision to remain closed for the remainder of the season, as they acknowledge the power of Mother Nature and the significant snow loss that has occurred.
Snowmobiling Season Ends in Webb
The Town of Webb has recently made the decision to close its Snowmobile Trail System for the rest of the season due to the unsafe riding conditions caused by the ongoing warm weather. This announcement came on the same day as McCauley’s statement. The Old Forge Visitors Information Center confirmed that the trails have become hazardous for snowmobiling due to the persistently high temperatures.
The center stated that the absence of recovery is due to the ongoing warm temperatures and rainfall.
The Webb Town Council was praised for their ability to make difficult decisions.

According to the outlet, ski resorts in New York State have been facing challenges due to a combination of factors. As a result, the resorts have been working tirelessly to ensure that their slopes remain covered with fresh powder.
The National Weather Service predicts that the pattern of warm, rainy winters may break for the 2025 season. According to their forecast, El Niño, a weather pattern that typically brings warmer-than-average temperatures, is expected to completely collapse this summer.
Next winter might bring colder weather and fewer clouds as La Niña is expected to take over. However, it is still too early to predict the amount of snow we will experience during the upcoming season.
Now that we have entered the spring season, it is important to be aware that the bugs are becoming more active. Let’s take a look at some of the creatures that can potentially threaten our well-being and enjoyment.
