Maryland gunman sentenced to 12 years for shooting man in the head during DC dispute

Mocobizscene- A fatal shooting in Northeast DC more than two years ago has resulted in a 23-year-old Maryland man being sentenced to over a decade in prison, according to authorities. Jamaarr Morgan, a resident of Hyattsville, has received a 12-year prison sentence for his involvement in the tragic death of Jacques Russ in the unit block of 61st Street NE in December 2021.

DC Fire and EMS responded to the incident, and upon arrival, they pronounced Russ deceased.

Morgan, who was only 21 years old when the shooting occurred, admitted his guilt in July of last year. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter by armed, initially being arrested on charges of premeditated first-degree murder while armed.

The defendant could have been sentenced to a maximum of 180 months behind bars, but the judge decided to impose a five-year term of supervised release as well.
