Marjorie Taylor Greene Seeks to Disbar Fani Willis

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has lodged a complaint seeking the disbarment of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis due to her connection with a prosecutor she employed for the Georgia election interference case against former President Donald Trump.

Greene took to social media to express her intention of filing a complaint against Willis, accusing her of engaging in corrupt activities that warrant her disbarment.

According to a post by Greene on X, formerly Twitter, she believes that Willis should have been removed from her political persecution of President Trump. Greene mentioned that it was revealed that Willis went on lavish vacations with her lover Nathan Wade.

“He was the recipient of an exorbitant amount of money from his lover! He is not suitable for his position!”

In a complaint filed with the State Bar of Georgia on Wednesday, the Republican congresswoman asserted her request for an investigation into Fani Willis, urging for her suspension and disbarment, Bloomberg News reported.

Greene criticized the judge in the election interference case for not disqualifying Willis and for not acknowledging that she lied on the witness stand about her relationship with Wade, the special prosecutor hired by Willis.

Filing a complaint against a lawyer practicing in Georgia is open to anyone. However, it’s important to note that the proceedings surrounding the complaint are confidential. Therefore, if the Georgia State Bar decides to look into the matter or dismiss the complaint, this information will not be disclosed to the public. Ultimately, it is the Supreme Court of Georgia that holds the authority to determine any public disciplinary actions against a lawyer.

Greene’s complaint stems from the recent ruling made by Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee. In his ruling, Judge McAfee stated that Willis’ romantic involvement with Wade gave rise to an “appearance of impropriety.” As a result, Judge McAfee ordered the removal of Willis from the case. This decision poses a challenge for Willis as it may hinder his ability to pursue the charges against Trump and others implicated in the attempt to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

In a letter addressed to Willis, Wade promptly tendered his resignation following McAfee’s ruling. He stated that he was taking this step “in the interest of democracy, in dedication to the American public, and to expedite the progress of this case.”

According to defense attorneys, Wade received significant payments for his services in the case, and it was claimed that Willis took advantage of these funds by using them to finance trips for both himself and the attorneys.

Willis and Wade admitted to being in a romantic relationship, but they refuted any claims of improper benefits. They clarified that their relationship only started after Willis assumed the role of special prosecutor and it concluded last year. They emphasized that Willis either covered expenses herself or reimbursed Wade with cash for any travel-related costs.

According to The Associated Press, McAfee has given permission for Trump and other defendants to appeal the ruling that allowed Willis to stay on the prosecution, as long as Wade steps down. The Georgia Court of Appeals will have the final say on whether or not to consider the appeal.

Greene’s complaint adds to the ongoing attempts by Trump allies to undermine one of the multiple criminal cases against the former president, who is currently the likely Republican nominee for the 2024 election.

Trump has maintained his innocence and denied all the charges brought against him, portraying the cases as a deliberate attempt to impede his campaign to regain the presidency.
