Man fatally shot and killed in northeastern Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS: Authorities said a guy lost his life in a gunshot on the northeast side late on Tuesday night.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reports that shortly after 11 p.m., police were called in reference to an individual who had been shot in the 3900 block of North Mitthoeffer. Officers discovered an adult guy with a gunshot wound when they arrived. At the scene, he was declared deceased.

IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer stated, “I was asked earlier if I believed it was a targeted attack.” “At this stage in the investigation, it’s too early to say no, but if I had to guess, I would say yes because we are not aware of any houses in the area that have rounds or that have received calls reporting that rounds were fired into their residence.”

In an effort to solve the case, IMPD made a community appeal.

“Even if it’s something very small, we are asking anybody who did see anything to contact us, possibly around 10 o’clock in the evening, as it might help us solve this crime,” Weilhammer stated.

Investigations into the shooting are still ongoing.
