Mocobizscene- Anthony Rivers, a 47-year-old resident of Michigan City, has been charged in LaPorte Superior Court 1 with two counts of robbery and two counts of kidnapping. These charges are classified as Level 3 felonies. In addition, Rivers faces five other counts related to the alleged crimes.
In December, two separate incidents occurred outside King Richard’s Wine & Spirits on Franklin St, with a two-week gap between them, according to the police.
According to court documents, both women exited the store and got into their vehicles to leave after making their purchases. At this moment, Rivers sat down in the front passenger seats of their cars.
The police stated that he also asked her to take him to an ATM so she could withdraw money to give to him. However, she only had a food stamp card on her.
According to the police, she followed his command and drove him to a nearby location. Once they arrived, he got out of the vehicle and escaped on foot.
She was instructed to drive to an ATM, but she showed him her bank account to demonstrate that she didn’t have any funds to withdraw from the machine.
Wearing a ski mask, Rivers then ordered her to drive, according to the police. The woman was unwilling to hand over her keys to him, as stated by the police. Rivers justified his actions by claiming that he was “sparing her life.” Before leaving, He took her purse, rings, necklace, and earrings.
According to the police, both victims escaped the incident without any physical injuries.h According to court documents, Rivers was arrested due to the striking resemblance between the images captured from nearby surveillance cameras and the description of the suspects involved in each robbery.
According to the police, they were able to determine the location of the suspect, Rivers, through the analysis of vehicle registration data collected by license plate reading flock cameras. The data led them to a residence in the 1400 block of Tennessee Street, where they discovered a car that was connected to Rivers.
Rivers faces several charges, including two counts of possessing a firearm as a serious violent felon, which are considered Level 4 felonies. Additionally, he is charged with Level 5 felony intimidation and Level 6 felonies for pointing a firearm and attempting theft.
In 2005, police stated that Rivers had been arrested and subsequently found guilty of robbing two U.S. immigration agents in Calumet City, Illinois. On January 26th, Rivers was apprehended and has remained in custody since then. As of February 5th, he is still being held in the LaPorte County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
