A 30-year-old man has been charged with murder and other related offenses by the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. The charges stem from the fatal stabbing of a security guard at the Macy’s department store in Center City. The stabbing occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday.
Security stopped Tyrone Garcell Tunnell when he attempted to steal multiple hats from the store. They were able to recover the stolen hats and released the suspect. Tunnell was apprehended by the police at the Somerset SEPTA station in the Kensington neighborhood. Witnesses positively identified him as the suspect.

Macy’s, located in Center City, has experienced a significant increase in retail theft incidents. According to Interim Police Commissioner John Stanford, this particular Macy’s location has filed over 250 reports of retail theft this year.
