Long Island’s second-in-command police officer passes away due to cancer related to 9/11.

A September 11th-related cancer has claimed the life of one of Long Island’s top-ranking police officers.

On Sunday morning, Nassau County’s Chief of Patrol, Kevin Canavan, passed away. Canavan held the second-highest-ranking position as a uniformed officer within the department.

Throughout his career, Canavan dedicated 39 years to serving on the force.

Despite being hospitalized, he continued working until the end, providing consultancy services for security plans for the Cricket World Cup only a few weeks ago.
