On Saturday, at his arraignment, a man charged with the fatal stabbing of a high school student on Long Island disclosed that the victim had passed away.
The police charged 19-year-old Gianluca Bordone with manslaughter and assault following a violent altercation with 17-year-old Rocco Rodden early Thursday morning outside an axe-throwing establishment in Lower Manhattan, as reported by the New York Post.
Saturday morning in Manhattan Criminal Court, Bordone was being arraigned when he learned of Rodden’s death. The Post reports that the 19-year-old suspect murmured “oh my god” under his breath as the prosecutor informed the judge of Rodden’s death.
At approximately 1:50 a.m. on Thanksgiving, an altercation ensued between Bordone and Rodden at 96 Lafayette St. in Chinatown. Bordone is accused of stabbing Rodden and slashing his 19-year-old brother across the torso, resulting in a severe laceration. The stabbing incident was captured by surveillance footage. On Thanksgiving morning, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Rodden, a junior at Saint Joseph Regional High, passed away despite the brothers’ hasty transport to the hospital.
Rodden sustained a 6-inch laceration from the puncture. The autopsy findings indicated that the left ventricle of his heart was penetrated by the knife, as stated by Eun Bi Kim, the Manhattan assistant district attorney. Bordone was granted parole in the amount of $4 million, according to The Post. Online records indicate that he is presently detained at the Eric M. Taylor Center and is slated to appear in court again on Wednesday.
