Long Island Man Arrested for Arson and Possession of Illegal Substances at Chase Bank in Early Morning Incident

Mocobizscene-  There was a fire at the Chase bank on 930 Rosedale Avenue, and the police were called to respond to the incident. The Arson Bomb Squad has arrested a Bronx man for committing arson on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 5:18 am.

Detectives reported that the Fifth Precinct police were called to the Chase bank at 930 Rosedale Avenue regarding a fire. When they arrived, the police witnessed a fire in the vestibule area of the bank.

The investigation concluded that Garland Douglas, 32, who was standing outside the bank when the police arrived, was found to be the one responsible for starting the fire.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the defendant, Douglas, was present inside the vestibule at the time of the fire and was actively contributing to it by adding fuels. Law enforcement authorities apprehended the defendant without any resistance. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Upon his arrest, Douglas was found to be carrying a crack pipe containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, as well as a syringe.

The substance found on the item was believed to be heroin and had a brown color.

Garland Douglas, the defendant, will face charges of Arson in the third degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree. The arraignment for these charges will take place in the First District court in Hempstead on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
